Derek came faith in Jesus Christ through the witness of fellow airmen and friends from the Soldiers and Airmen's Scripture Readers Association while doing his National Service in Singapore.  His desire was to share with others that same gospel that had transformed his own life so that they too might enjoy the forgiveness of sins and hope of heaven.  The Open-Air Mission is one of the organisations he admired as they tirelessly reach out with the good news.
